Picardy includes three departments which take their names from their main rivers : Aisne, Oise and Somme.
Amiens is both the capital city of the Somme department and Picardy.
Picardy has managed to preserve its authenticity and benefits from an historic patrimony of great importance. It is associated with the French Kingdom and saw its first kings born here : Clovis, in Soissons, and Hugues Capet, in Senlis.
Picardy is also a land of dreams, pleasure and charm with its landscape comprising numerous features : The bay of the Somme and protected wild coasts, its nature reserves, its luxurious forests such as Compiègne or Crécy, its castles, those of Rambures, Pierrefonds, Coucy or Chantilly, its churches and its cathedrals among the most beautiful in the world : Amiens, Soissons, Laon and Beauvais…
Picardy is also the memory of wars ' tragedies : The Péronne Historial and the Château of Blérancourt have respectfully preserved the memory of those events.
